ABQ Alpacas has been farming and breeding premium quality alpacas for sale since 1992.
The alpaca herd name was purchased in 1998 by Geoff Scott and James Thornton from Gabriella Bozzini's farm.
Geoff and James have continued ABQ's tradition of breeding black and grey huacayas and suris at Panguipullli in the South of Chile. (Huacayas and suris are different types of alpaca). They now have a herd of 120 top quality alpacas on their farms around which their export business is based. Abq Alpacas is now closely associated with Alpacas International Ltd.
In 1999 ABQ farmers made its first export to the USA to establish its new herd in the USA.
In 2000 ABQAlpacas sent the first shipment of alpacas to South Africa. 60 to Dr Gavin Lindhorst - a farmer of Cape Town. This was followed with a second shipment of 30 to Chris Griffith - farming in Natal. These alpaca are thriving in their new farm environment of South Africa. A further shipment to South Africa is planned for later in 2005.
A consignment of 40 huacayas has been delivered to Alpacas of Wessex farm in the United Kingdom and Europe in January 2003. This shipment was totally sold out in a very short time. ( The Huacaya alpaca has a more fluffy fiber with a lot of crimp. )
In June 2003 a shipment of 29 alpacas was made to Emily Brown in Switzerland.
In May 2003 shipment of 155 white huacaya alpacas was made to Mark Anderson and Sarah Anderson "Collingwood Alpacas" at St Ives Cambridgehsire, UK. A additional selection of 25 males and females from Rural Alianza and Koricacha in Peru were delivered to Mark and Sarah in January 2005. They are now winning their first of what will be many championships at shows in the UK.
In 2004 ABQ managed a shipment of 125 alpacas from Peru to the UK for Alpacas of Wessex. After completing their 6 months quarantine in Switzerland, these alpacas were delivered to clients and to Alapcas of Wessex in January 2005. Alpacas from this shipment have already won many Championships and Supreme Championships at the major alpaca shows in the UK including Supreme Champion alpaca at the prestigeous Royal Bath and West show. A new Shipment of 15 white alpacas from Chile to Alpacas of Wessex is planned for September 2005.
In December 2004 a shipment of 15 huacayas was delivered to Connie and Olav Haugen in Norway. A further shipment is planned for 2005.
In January 2005 a shipmentof 38 huacayas and Suris were delivered to Hartwig Kraft, Magicland Alpacas in Germany. A further shipment to Hartwig is at present being planned for August / September 2005.
ABQ is currently managing a shipment of 18 alpacas for Glenmorar Alpacas N.Z. These are at present in pre export quarantine in Tacna, Peru awaiting shipment to Australia in September 2005.
ABQ will also be shipping alpacas to the UK, Finland and Sweden in 2006.
ABQ is also associated with Glenmorar Alpacas farmers in New Zealand. ABQ alpacas are able to export alpacas to China.
